Whether you play for fun or are a professional sportsperson ... accidents happen!
There are many sports injuries seen at the London Hand and Wrist Unit, such as:
Some conditions need to be treated with surgery, but many conditions are able to be managed by a hand therapist using conservative methods such as casting and splinting. We can use specialised splinting skills to fabricate removable thermoplastic, neoprene or softcast splints that can be worn whilst returning to your chosen sport.
Following periods of immobilisation (when required for healing), exercise programmes are advised to help restore range of motion and strength. Using the Primus RS simulator we are able to tailor programmes of graded resisted strengthening specific to your chosen sport. We have even got a cricket ball attachment made specifically for us for the treatment of our cricketers (as an American machine it came with baseballs and softballs!).
