Hand Trauma Service

The London Hand and Wrist Unit now offers a trauma management service for injuries affecting the hand and/or wrist. With the network of LHWU sites and large consultant group, appointments with the next available consultant and/or hand therapist can be arranged on the same day, including if necessary, surgery.

We have the one direct enquiry line for the service, all patients wishing to access the Hand and Wrist Trauma Service must call the LHWU on 0203 214 3617. Our administration team will direct you in to the most appropriate appointment for you given your injury.

Patients who have already attended an NHS Accident and Emergency Department may transfer care privately to the London Hand Wrist Unit if desired. Please speak to one of the LHWU administration staff who will be able to assist the transfer of care.

Some of the hand injuries we have experienced consultants and therapists to treat include;

  • Forearm fractures
  • Wrist fractures
  • Hand fractures
  • Tendon injuries
  • Nerve injuries
  • Finger dislocations
  • Soft Tissue injuries
  • Finger tip injuries
  • Nail bed lacerations.

Please note:

  • Hand Trauma Service operates between 9:00am and 17:00pm Monday to Friday.
  • Open Hand Injuries must be triaged by a Doctor prior to referral
  • Trauma / Injuries occurring out of hours or on weekends please attend the nearest accessible Accident and Emergency Department.
  • Patient under 16 can only be seen by a consultant with a parent or guardian present - please let the administration team know if your child is under 16.
  • Please contact your insurance company to confirm your level of cover. We do also offer self pay options. Our administration team will be more than happy to answer your queries.
