At The London Hand and Wrist Unit, a team of eminent consultant orthopaedic and plastic hand surgeons offer in-patient and out-patient care.

Before surgery is carried out, an initial consultation with a Hand Surgeon is required. This consultation will include a comprehensive assessment of your condition. Any further investigations, such as x-rays or MRI scans, can be arranged.

There are currently fourteen surgeons who form the surgical team of the London Hand and Wrist Unit. Each individual surgeon works at one or two of the different sites. When you call the London Hand and Wrist Unit, you will be asked the following information:

This information helps the Hand and Wrist Unit staff establish the urgency of your condition / injury and also identify the most appropriate member of our team to commence your care. We have senior therapists available each day to triage urgent referrals and surgeons are readily available.

If surgery is indicated for your condition, this may be performed as either a day case or overnight stay. Surgery may take place at any of the hospitals detailed above, which all have the specialist surgical equipment necessary for intricate hand surgery. All children (under 16) will need to have their operations at the Portland Hospital. Convenient post-operative appointments with a hand therapist to manage your wound and commence rehabilitation can be arranged at the same site, or at the site of your choice, ensuring seamless care.

Each consultant hand surgeon operates their own fee for the first and subsequent appointments. Please contact the Hand Unit for further details. Estimated quotes for surgery and therapy are available on request as are competitive self pay packages.
