What Is Hand Therapy?

Hand Therapy is the treatment of conditions or injuries of the Hand and upper limb either by an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist. Therapists use various modalities in their treatment to facilitate healing and promote the best outcome for their patients.

How do I get to the Platinum Medical Centre (PMC)?

Bus: the 13, 113 and 274 all stop at Lords Cricket Ground/Park Road which is a 2 minute walk to the PMC on Lodge Road.

Tube: The PMC can be accessed by 3 tube stations. The closest being St John's Wood station.

St John's Wood Tube Station: Turn down Wellington Road past the Wellington Hospital and Lords cricket ground to Lodge Road.

Baker Street Station: Turn right out of Baker Street Tube station and walk up Park Road. This is a 15 minute walk approximately.

Marylebone Station: Turn left out of the station and walk to Gloucester Place and left up Gloucester Place to Park Road. This is a 15 minute walk approximately.

Car: Parking is available in Kingsmill Terrace and Park Road.

Shuttle Bus: The Wellington Hospital runs an internal shuttle bus from all buildings to the PMC, if you wish to use this service for appointments please allow an extra 10 minutes waiting time.

Where is the Hand Unit Located at the Platinum Medical Centre?

The London Hand and Wrist Unit is located on the first floor of the PMC, once reception has processed your arrival you will be directed to the first floor lounge where you will be then called for your appointment.

What does my Insurance cover?

If you have private health insurance contact your provider to confirm your cover for your Consultant appointment and Hand Therapy, in most cases your consultation and therapy is covered in your insurance plan. Your insurance company may provide different authorisation numbers for consultants and therapy.

Insurance may not cover the cost of splints, wound dressings or equipment that your therapist may prescribe. Your therapist will discuss the cost of these items with you during your treatment.

What if I am a self pay patient?

We accept patients who fund the cost of their own treatment. Our Consultants and Therapists will discuss the cost of your treatment based on their assessment of your needs. Please contact the unit if you have any further questions regarding self pay options.

Do you provide medico-legal assessments?

The Consultants of the London Hand and Wrist Unit have considerable experience in hand surgery and hence are recognised as medical experts in the field. Medico-legal assessments are offered by members of the LHWU consultant group giving expert opinion on medical management.
